Riyadh – Mubasher: Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas), which has a joint venture (JV) with Saudi Arabian Oil Co (Aramco) in the refining and petrochemical complex in Malaysia's southern state of Johor, intends to start operating the steam cracker refinery in the first quarter of 2019, according to Alriyadh newspaper.
This complex is expected to handle 300,000 barrels of crude oil with high sulfur content imported from the MENA region and produce a huge quantity of refined petroleum products, including gasoline and diesel, in addition to feedstock, which is used in manufacturing fuel, to produce 3.5 tonnes of products annually, the newspaper added.
Aramco provides around 50% to 70% of the refinery’s oil needs, as the Saudi supply in the refinery amounts to 50% to 70%, while Petronas provides the natural gas, energy, and other services for the project.
This amount will represent a large portion of the commercial business between Saudi Arabia and Malaysia, according to the newspaper.
