Malaysia to boost palm oil, rubber trade in Egypt

Mubasher: Deputy primary industries minister of Malaysia Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin had conducted a meeting with the Egyptian supply and internal trade minister Ali Al Moselhey in a two-day official.

The Malaysian official has led a palm oil and rubber delegation and assured that Egypt can count on Malaysia for a secured source of palm oil supply, according to a statement on Monday.

“Malaysian palm oil products are widely used in the food and non-food sectors such as the production of blended cooking oil, palm based solid fats particularly vegetable ghee and confectionery products and applications in various oleochemical formulation,” the statement added.

Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said that “Malaysia has more than 300 manufacturers, producing an extensive range of over 1,000 different types of rubber products for various industries and applications.”

Exporting of rubber and rubber products increased by 24.5% in 2017 when compared to 2016, and generated $31 million revenue for Malaysia.

Rubber gloves account for 77% of the total Malaysian rubber market in Egypt, according to Mr Shamsul.
