Marriott to inject $2bn investments into KSA

Riyadh – Mubasher: Marriott International expected to attract investments worth $2 billion to Saudi Arabia over the upcoming four years through doubling the number of hotel rooms, said Alex Kyriakidis, president and managing director for the MENA and Africa.

Rooms in Marriott hotels will reach to 12,500 during the next four years, instead of 6,800 currently, Reuters reported, citing Kyriakidis as saying.

Marriott is establishing now about 6,000 rooms with a cost of $2 billion, Kyriakidis added, noting that the firm will operate 52 hotels instead of 23 currently upon the completion of building operations.

“Ritz Carlton’s temporary closure did not hurt the group’s operations in the kingdom, adding that the crackdown on corruption should reassure investors,” the agency added.

Domestic tourism still makes up most of visitors for the hotels in the oil-rich kingdom.

The firm operates and manages the Marriott, Ritz Carlton, Le Meridien, and Sheraton brands in Saudi Arabia, in addition to other hotels.
