Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) announced work progress at the GCC’s first commercial-scale wind farm in Oman.
Abu Dhabi’s state-owned green energy firm revealed that it has installed the first of a planned 13 wind turbines, Arabian Business reported.
Located in Dhofar, the wind farm will generate 50 megawatts to power 16,000 homes in Oman’s south.
Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) has financed the whole project.
The wind farm is a fruit of an agreement signed between the Rural Areas Electricity Company of Oman (TANWEER) and Masdar-led consortium that includes the US industrial conglomerate General Electric (GE).
The project, containing 13 tribunes, is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2019, the UAE’s leading developer noted.
“The country has immense untapped potential in renewable energy, particularly wind energy. With this project, we are demonstrating our strong commitment to supporting the diversification of the energy mix in Oman and the wider region,” Manar Al Moneef, GE’s general manager for renewable energy in the Middle East, said.
