Cairo – Mubasher: A spokesperson for the Ministry of Health on Sunday said that the explosion that took place in the area surrounding Mar Girgis Church in Tanta killed 13 and injured 25.
Khaled Megahed told CBC Extra that the injured were transferred to Al Menshawy General Hospital and Tanta University Hospital.
The number of dead and injured people is from the official statement released by Al Gharbiya governorate to the Ministry of Health, he added.
These numbers are preliminary indicators until the situation calms and stabilises inside the church and all injured and dead are accounted for, he said.
A total of 26 ambulances were directed towards Mar Girgis Church, Megahed added.
Earlier on Sunday, the secretary general of Al Gharbiya governorate told CBC Extra that the explosion left 13 dead and 31 injured.
According to preliminary reports in state media, a bomb had been placed inside the church underneath a seat.
The explosion comes as Coptic Christians started celebrations for Palm Sunday.
