Cairo – Mubasher: The Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities has invested a total of EGP 83 billion in Upper Egypt since President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi assumed office in 2014.
These investments include EGP 21.057 billion in building 130,892 residential units, EGP 390.5 million in developing 94 slums, and EGP 11.893 billion in constructing 931 kilometres (km) of roads, the Minister of Housing, Assem El-Gazzar, said in a statement on Wednesday.
Moreover, the ministry also invested EGP 43.595 billion in establishing 271 drinking water and sanitation projects and 1,654 projects for the renovation of existing water and sewage plants and networks as well as EGP 5.504 billion in setting up 526 service buildings.
The ministry allocated EGP 45.7 billion for developing existing cities in Upper Egypt, EGP 26 billion for establishing various projects in new cities, and EGP 11.2 billion for constructing projects in fourth-generation cities.
