Cairo - Mubasher: The Egyptian Ministry of Finance has negated on Sunday night what it said in an earlier statement regarding plans to completely abolish fuel subsidies.
The deputy minister for fiscal policies and institutional reform, Ahmed Kouchouk, stressed that the statement regarding eliminating subsidies is completely not true, noting that it resulted from an unintentional error.
When asked about raising fuel prices twice within eight months, Kouchouk added that the increase was planned as part of a series of economic reforms and social security, indicating that he has never made remarks about a complete elimination of the fuel subsidies.
