Riyadh – Mubasher: Etihad Etisalat (Mobily) has announced signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Nokia Co to begin fifth generation (5G) tests in its home country Saudi Arabia.
Mobily CEO Ahmed Aboudoma and Nokia’s chief customer operations officer Ashish Chowdhary signed the MoU at a conference in Barcelona.
The collaboration comes as part of Mobily’s and Nokia’s strategic vision to develop 5G and bolster the advanced bandwidth network, the company said.
Commenting on the signing, Mobily’s CEO stated that the agreement comes as part of the company’s strategy under the Saudi Vision 2030, through which the Saudi government is looking to raise high-speed Internet coverage as well as enhance connection quality across the country.
The MoU will introduce new technologies under Mobily’s network such as: 4.5G LET, and 4.9G, 5G, transport modernisation for both optic and IP, fixed wireless access technologies including FastMile and wireless PON.
“We are currently working on signing a MoU with Nokia and other enterprises that has a track record in launching new technologies over Telecom Towers,” Aboudoma added.
Last week, Mobily announced signing a similar deal with Chinese mobile and technology company Huawei.
