Riyadh – Mubasher: Etihad Etisalat (Mobily) on Monday announced that it has acquired additional spectrum in the frequency bands of 800MHz and 1800MHz through its participation in an auction.
The auction was conducted by the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) on Sunday 11 December 2018, according to the company’s statement on the Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul).
Mobily won 2x10MHz of spectrum in the 800MHz band for a total license fee worth SAR 100 million to be paid in equal annual installments.
The total amount of the fee will be paid over the coming 14 years starting from 1 January 2019, in addition to an annual usage fee of SAR 54 million, the kingdom's second-largest telecommunications operator noted, adding that the new spectrum will be available for Mobily's use by the second half of 2018.
Moreover, Mobily won an additional spectrum of 2x5MHz in the 1800MHz band for a total license fee of SAR 30 million with the same payment terms of the first brand and an annual usage fee of SAR 19 million, according to the company's statement.
The second spectrum will be available for Mobily's use by 1 March 2019.
The additional frequency bands will enhance the quality of the company’s services in an effort to improve its customers' experience, cope with the increase of data usage and prepare for the future technology evolutions.
