Dubai – Mubasher: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has agreed with Saudi Arabia Acwa Power-led consortium to amend the power purchase agreement (PPA) for the fourth phase of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park to add 250 megawatts (MWs) at the cost of 2.4 dollar cents per kilowatt hour.
The amendment is aimed at increasing the park’s power generation to 950 MWs instead of 700.
Total investments of the mega solar power project will reach about AED 16 billion, according to Emirates News Agency (WAM).
The park will use three techniques for producing clean energy: the first is a 260-metre (850-foot) tower receiving focused sunlight, the world's tallest such tower, and solar photovoltaic panels with a capacity of 250 MWs.
Last week, Acwa Power signed a deal with the Egyptian government to build a $2.3 billion power plant in Luxor, indicating that the new power station would have a capacity of 2,250 megawatts.
The plant is set to begin operations by 2023, Egypt's electricity and energy minister Mohamed Shaker said on Thursday.
