Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: Abu Dhabi’s investment arm Mubadala is considering the divestiture of all or part of chipmaker Globalfoundries Inc., sources said on Wednesday.
No final decision has been reached yet in this regard, the sources noted, adding that the deal’s value is estimated at $20 billion upon completion.
Globalfoundries is one of the largest contract manufacturers of semiconductors, with facilities in Singapore, Germany and the U.S.
Mubadala announced earlier this week the launch of Cognit Technology Solutions in partnership with U.S.-based technology company IBM.
The new subsidiary will provide IBM’s computing system, Watson, to organisations in the MENA region, and support entrepreneurs, app developers, and startups that are creating Watson apps and services. Cognit is now the exclusive provider for IBM Watson in the Mena region.
