Muscat index loses 44 pts at close

Mubasher: The MSM 30 index of the Muscat Securities Market fell at Monday’s close by 0.77% or 44.39 points to the level of 5,700.21 points.

Trading volume increased to 8.49 million shares from 7.08 million shares exchanged on Sunday, turnover also rose to ORM 2.36 million from OMR 2.24 million.

The services and industrial sectors fell 0.87% and 0.05% respectively, while the financial sector advanced 0.16%.

The index was pressured by the fall in some blue chips as HSBC Oman, the worst performing stock, declined 3.2%, and Omantel shrank 2.07%.

Meanwhile, Al Madina Takaful led the green list with a growth of 2.63% and Bank Nizwa rose 1.14%.

Bank Nizwa was the largest-traded stock with a volume of 2.29 million shares, whereas HSBC Oman made the highest turnover of OMR 998,640.
