Muscat market advances 1.5% at close

Mubasher: The Muscat Securities Market (MSM) kicked off the week in green as the main index, MSM 30, closed Sunday at the level of 4,941.75 points after rising 1.54% or 74.76 points.

The Sharia Index also edged up 0.55% to the level of 804.35 points.

Trading volume reached 14.5 million shares exchanged at OMR 3.34 million as 930 transactions were closed.

The index main components closed higher collectively, headed by the financial sector which climbed 2.22%, and followed by the services and industrial sectors as they increased 0.76% and 0.34%, respectively.

Out of 41 shares, 25 closed in green, four others declined and the 12 remaining stood at the same rates.

Al Anwar Holding was the top gainer by adding 6.52%, while Al Hassan Engineering was the weakest share as it fell 1.54%.

Al Anwar Holding was the most active share after 4.44 million shares worth OMR 655,000 were traded.

The main index declined on Thursday by 0.48% or 23.66 points to the 7,867 points, the lowest level since 14 April 2009.
