Muslim travellers need more halal food, lists of nearby mosques

Mubasher: Hotels in non-Muslim countries should take some additional measures to attract Muslims.

In a survey on 35,000 Muslim travellers conducted by Sociable Earth, an organisation provides information on hotels, 61.3% of the respondents stressed that non-Muslim hotels should increase their halal food options, while 61.1% stated that the hotels should have a list of the proximate mosques.

“We felt there was a great need to understand Muslim travellers and we’re delighted to announce we created the largest survey ever conducted for Muslim travellers,” Sociable Earth’s CEO Omar Ahmed said.

Among various travel destinations, 30% of the respondents opted for Dubai while 16% chose Turkey, which was followed by Maldives, Malaysia, and Mauritius, the survey found.

“Over 35,000 people participated in this survey which gained us immense insight into the travel market. Certainly, the halal travel market has graduated from its niche status to become an industry-shaping force, in its own right,” Ahmed commented.

As for average spending on travel, the majority of the respondents, 73%, revealed that they spend $2,000 or less, while 18.2% were spending $2,000-$4,000.

The top spenders made up only 1.1%, with total spending of $10,000 or more.
