NBK closes partnership with Careem for online payment

Mubasher: The National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) on Saturday signed a partnership agreement with the UAE-based transportation company Careem for online payment services, according to a bank statement.

Under the agreement, the NBK will provide Careem’s customers with online payments for Careem’s car booking services.

"We are pleased to announce our latest partnership with Careem as part of our commitment to providing the best online payment solutions and at the highest standards of safety that enable customers to complete their transactions electronically and increase non-cash payments,” general manager of consumer banking group at the NBK, Mohammad Al Othman, commented.

Operating in Kuwait since 2017, Careem is offering on-demand delivery services and operates Careem Bus in Egypt and Saudi Arabia, in addition to 14 countries in the Greater Middle East. The company was acquired by Uber for $3.1billion.

"We are delighted to join forces in Kuwait with such an established institution as NBK and look forward to rolling out further, exciting developments together in the future,” general manager of Careem –GCC countries, Khaled Nuseibeh, said.

On Saturday, the NBK announced that it has been selected to be a constituent of the FTSE4Good Index Series.

NBK achieved an increase of 12.5% in profits during the first six months of 2019 compared to the same period a year ago, recording KWD 209.09 million ($689 million).
