National Bank of Egypt to issue international bonds

By Ahmed Awad

Kuwait – Mubasher: National Bank of Egypt (NBE) considers offering international bonds to cover its demands of foreign currency, said Mahmoud Montasser, NBE Deputy Chairman.

The deputy chairman exclusively told Mubasher Sunday that “the bank seeks to issue US dollar-denominated bonds, but the administration is waiting for setting the right moment and price”.

Moreover, the country's largest state-owned bank, which controls over 27% of the Egyptian banking market, intends to break into investment banking sectors, should the opportunity present itself, Montasser added.

Mr. Mahmoud Montasser is currently visiting Kuwait for promoting the sale of US dollar-denominated certificates to Egyptians living abroad.
