Mubasher: Tokyo stocks extended their downward trend for the fourth straight day, tracing their Chinese peers which tumbled and suffered its shortest trading day in its 25-year history.
China's markets stopped trading about 30 minutes after they opened, as a newly installed mechanism to limit volatility was triggered for the second time this week.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended 2.33% lower at 17,767.34 points, its lowest since October 2015
The broader Topix index slipped 2.1% to 14,57.94, while JPX-Nikkei Index 400 fell 2.2% to 13,121.96.
