Nikkei plunges to 9-week low on Tuesday

Mubasher: Japanese stocks ended Tuesday in the red, falling for the fourth session in a row, whereas the Yen continued to rise.

The Nikkei index fell 1% to 15,959 points, its lowest level in 9 weeks. Similarly, the Topix index retreated by 1% to 1,271 points.

Investors are currently awaiting the results of three key central-bank monetary policy meetings. The US Federal Reserve, the Bank of Japan and Bank of England are scheduled to meet this week.

In addition the Brexit referendum will be held on 23 June.

By 7:30am GMT, the dollar was down 0.52% to 105.71 yen. A stronger yen hurts the competitiveness of Japanese exporters.
