No minimum wage in UAE – ministry

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The UAE government officials have announced that there is no plan to set a minimum wage in the nation.

The GCC country opts for free and flexible wage policies, which enable the supply and demand forces to control such matter based on the market’s needs, officials revealed, a local newspaper, citing the Human Resources and Emiratisation Ministry.

Through further liberal policy, the UAE’s market sees the creation of thousands of new jobs every year, they added.

“A free labour market based on supply and demand creates the optimal conditions, under which we are able to continue to welcome thousands of guest workers to the UAE every year, while simultaneously fostering sustainable economic growth,” the ministry said.

The human resources ministry denied any reports concerning domestic workers’ minimum wage.
