Number of tourists visiting Egypt down 45% - CAPMAS

Cairo - Mubasher: The number of tourists visiting Egypt in August 2016 fell by 45% according to the Egyptian Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The total number of tourists reached around 503,000 in August compared to nearly 915,200 in August 2015.

Russian tourism led the decline as it dropped 55.2%, followed by UK with 15.9%, Germany with 14%, and Italy with a 6.2% decrease in the total number of foreign visitors to Egypt.

The Middle East accounted for the largest share of tourists with 33.7%, Western Europe came in second with 29.2%.

Arab tourists increased by 36.7% to 234,800 in August 2016 compared to 171,700 in the same month last year.
