Oman inflation rises 1.79% in April

Mubasher: The inflation rate in Oman went up 1.79% in April 2017, compared to April 2016, while it had dropped 0.25% in March 2017, according to statements by the National Centre for Statistics & Information (NCSI).

This increase in inflation is attributed to the rise in prices of major facilities, such as housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels by 1.57%, and transport by 6.65%.

Furniture, home fitting, equipment, home maintenance, education, restaurants, hotels, commodities, various services, culture, entertainment, and health prices rose 3.04%, 2.85%, 0.2%, 1.52%, 0.57%, and 0.40%, respectively.

On the other hand, food and non-alcoholic beverages prices shed 0.16%, clothing and footwear decreased 0.41%, and telecommunications dropped 2.92%.

North Al Batinah governorate recorded the highest inflation rate of 2.88%, followed by Dhofar with 1.74%, Muscat governorate with 1.71%, Northern and Southern Ash Sharqiyah with 1.36%, Ad Dhahirah governorate with 1.13%, Ad Dakhiliyah with 0.99%, and Al Buraymi with 0.73%.
