Oman records OMR 3.9bn trade surplus in August

Mubasher: The Omani Balance of Trade (BOT) registered OMR 3.871 billion surplus in August, compared to a surplus of OMR 1.715 billion in the year-ago period.

The sultanate’s merchandise exports surged 30% year-on-year to OMR 10.584 billion at the end of August, according to a report released by the National Center for Statistics & Information (NCSI) on Tuesday.

Merchandise imports also increased by 4.4% to OMR 6.712 billion in August, compared to OMR 6.428 billion a year earlier.

The Omani hydrocarbon exports soared 39.8% year-on-year to OMR 6.76 billion during the eighth month of the year, the NCSI’s data showed.

Non-oil merchandise exports went up 25.6% to OMR 2.651 billion in August versus OMR 2.11 billion in the comparative period of 2017.
