Oman’s inflation rate cools 0.14% in Dec.

Mubasher: Oman’s consumer price index (CPI) dropped last December by 0.14% year-on-year and rose 0.33% month-on-month, according to a report by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The report attributed the y/y decline to the falling prices of most of the leading groups as transportation shrank 1.57%, food and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.14%), miscellaneous goods and services (-0.2%), telecom (-0.14%), recreation and culture (-0.13%) and clothing and footwear (-0.07%).  

However, the prices of housing, water, electricity and fuels group rose by 0.46%, followed by furnishing, household appliances and maintenance (+0.1%), education (+3.03%), health (+2.98%) and restaurants and hotels (+0.08%).

Dhofar Governorate saw the highest inflation rate of 0.54%, followed by Muscat at 0.09%, while Al Buraimi Governorate’s inflation rate dipped by 0.99%.
