Mubasher: Omani officials have stated that 500,000 jobs will be created in the tourism sector, while other 300,000 in the logistics sector will be provided by 2040, officials said at the National Programme for Enhancing Economic Diversification (Tanfeedh) press conference.
The Omani National Strategic Plan for tourism includes the increasing of the tourism sector’s contribution to the national gross domestic product (GDP) to 10%, head of investment services at the Ministry of Tourism Mohammed Al Zadjali said.
“We predict that by 2040, the logistics sector could provide job opportunities for 300,000 people. Currently, Oman is ranked 43rd in the global logistics sector index but by 2040 we expect it to be ranked 10,” Group Chief Ports and Free Zones Officer Nabil Al Bimani commented.
The next five years will see a significant shift towards renewable and sustainable energy in Oman, the Middle East’s biggest non-OPEC producer.
