Ooredoo’s subscribers decrease to 2.3 million

Mubasher: National Mobile Telecommunications’ (Ooredoo) subscribers base in Kuwait lost 9.8% to 2.3 million clients, said CEO Mohamed Al Thani, owing the telco’s lower revenues in 2015 to free applications.

Ooredoo reported revenues worth KWD 718 million in 2015, compared to KWD 748 million in 2014, a decline of 4%.

On the sidelines of Ooredoo’s ordinary general meeting, he said Ooredoo Tunisia’s revenues decreased and pushed the profits to fall by 48%, due to political tension and weakening tourism.

The CEO added that the company’s market share reached 30% despite strong competition, saying the game rules have changed as the future of telecom lies in technology services rather than phone calls.
