Ooredoo to install 85 G5 cell towers in Qatar

Mubasher: Qatari-based telecom group Ooredoo revealed plans to maintain providing the latest optimum telecommunication and information technology services in Qatar to benefit from the success it achieved last year.

The Qatari firm is accelerating the launch of the first 5G network in the world, its biggest achievement locally and globally, state-run newspaper Al Raya reported, citing the company.

The company is currently working on installing more than G5 cell towers across Doha, while operating tests on the network in remote areas, Ooredoo remarked.

Current networks are constantly updated, the company added, pointing out that it has tested the first G5 broadband device.

Ooredoo has planned a special event in the Pearl-Qatar to test the speed and abilities of the G5 network in smart cities, which will be available in the future in Qatar.

The company has tested several innovative technologies such as the flying taxi, the G5 bus, the G5 boats, and virtual reality in one of the luxurious boats.

Moreover, Ooredoo has been the first telecom company in Qatar and one of the first countries in the GCC to launch eSIM.

The company has been also successful in delivering the optical fibres service to more than 400,000 houses in the country.
