Mubasher: Orange Africa and Middle East has partnered with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), a German service provider in the field of international cooperation, to promote the digital skills of 20,000 youth in 14 countries across Africa and the Middle East.
The collaboration is set to improve the employability of youth, with Orange contributing with EUR 20 million and GIZ by up to EUR 10 million, according to a press release on Tuesday.
The agreement was signed between the CEO of Orange Africa and Middle East, Alioune Ndiaye, and GIZ’s head of the Development Partnerships Program, Kathinka Kurz.
In addition, the “partnership will have a long-lasting impact on the economic perspective of young people,” the statement read.
Together, Orange and GIZ will build digital hubs across Africa and the Middle East. The Orange Digital Centers (ODC) will feature digital cutting-edge equipment, providing free training in digital technology, and fostering the creation of start-ups while supporting project leaders.
Recently launched in Tunisia, the ODC concept will soon be popular in Morocco, Jordan, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Egypt, and Guinea and others.
It is noteworthy that Orange is present in 19 countries across Africa and the Middle East, with around 125 million customers registered on 30 October 2019 and sales totalling EUR 5.2 billion in 2018.
