Cairo - Mubasher: Head of the Telecommunications and IT Committee at the Egyptian Parliament said that he submitted a memorandum to the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) to shut down the online game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) in Egypt.

The matter is still under study and the possibility of closing the game in the Arab world's most populous country has not been determined yet, Ahmed Badawy told Mubasher in a phone call.

This request aims to safeguard the citizens, mainly children, from any games or apps that pose a danger to the society, Badawy indicated.

He added that the parliament previously acted seriously against a number of other dangerous games and apps, such as the Blue Whale.

He highlighted the importance of raising awareness of the effects of such apps on the society, saying “once we block PUBG in Egypt, another app will be released”.

PUBG has recently sparked controversy among youth and children on social media.

The game, developed by PUBG Corporation, is an internet-based game available on Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, and smartphones.
