Decypha: Philips Lighting, a global leader in lighting solutions, announced that 78% of its 2016 revenues are from sustainable products, compared to 72% in 2015 previous, according to a press statement.
Company revenues recorded EUR 5.5 billion for 2016, a slight improvement to the previous year which hit EUR 5.4 billion in revenues.
The increase reflects the company’s progress in “Brighter Lives, Better World” sustainability program, which was introduced during “Climate Week NYC 2016” in New York.
Philips Lighting aims to reach 80% of its revenues from sustainable products, systems, and service by 2020. Sustainability is a core feature of the company’s business and a key element in its future plans. In 2016, the company reduced its carbon footprint by 39% while reducing injuries and illness at work by 24%.
The company had supplied 628 million LED bulbs in the world markets as part of its commitment to supply 2 billion LED bulbs by the year 2020, which contributed to reducing pollution of the atmosphere by 15,000 kilotons of carbon dioxide.
Furthermore, Phillips also managed to reduce the amount of waste to landfill by 41% compared with 2015, while the company continues to promote its sustainability efforts. The company has devoted 80% of its research efforts on innovation in the field of sustainability, with the Lamp Dubai Initiative as one of its results.
