Princess Reema named 1st Saudi woman ambassador to US

Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has appointed Princess Reema bint Bandar as the first female Saudi ambassador for the kingdom to the United States.

Princess Reema follows Prince Khalid bin Salman, who was appointed deputy defence minister, Saudi media reported.

"Bint Bandar becomes the first female ambassador in Saudi history and the first female with a rank of minister - a strong signal to the integration of women into the government and workforce," founder of the pro-Saudi think-tank Arabia Foundation Ali Shihabi stated via Twitter.

The first female ambassador to the US previously worked at the General Sports Authority (GEA), where she led a campaign to raise women's contribution in the kingdom’s sports activities. Prior to that, she worked in the Ministry of Education, Uber, and as a counselor in the office of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The Princess is also the daughter of a former long-time ambassador to the US.
