Doha - Mubasher: The main index of Qatar Exchange (QE) went up 1.23% in the first week of the year, as it closed at 8,630.67 points.
The market cap rose by 1.07% compared to the week before, reaching a total QAR 477.78 billion.
Meanwhile, liquidity levels dropped 31.3% to QAR 866.1 million, down from QAR 1.26 million in the week that ended 28 December.
Traded volumes decreased by 39.02% and reached 37.81 million shares, compared with 61.99 million shares in the previous week.
The market gains were supported by the rise of five sectors, as services increased by 3.62%, while industry and banks gained 1.20% and 1.07%, respectively.
On the other hand, real estate and insurance fell 2.11% and 1.35%, respectively.
