QEWC unit launches solar power plant in Jordan

Doha – Mubasher: Nebras Power, a subsidiary of Qatar Electricity and Water Company, said Tuesday that its consortium has completed the construction of the Shams Ma’an Solar power project in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

The project started commercial operation in September 2016 and was completed ahead of schedule, according to a bourse statement.

Nebras will sell generated electricity from the new plant to the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) in Jordan under a 20 years power purchase agreement (PPA).

The company said the plant’s capacity is 52.5 megawatts, and now generates more than 30% of the electricity generated using solar energy in the Kingdom of Jordan, adding that this percentage will reach about 16% of the total electricity generated using solar energy after the completion of the second phase of solar projects under construction in Jordan.
