Mubasher: US-based McDermott International has been awarded 'detailed design' contract for the expansion of North Field offshore jackets, the world's largest non-associated gas field, by Qatar Petroleum (QP).
The new contract is deemed a key step to award the procurement, fabrication and installation (EPCI) contract by the end of 2018, state-owned QP said in statement released late Saturday.
“This is yet another milestone on the road to implementing one of the most ambitious gas projects in the southern sector of the North Field, and starting the first LNG production from the new LNG mega train by the end of 2023,” Saad Sherida al Kaabi, president and CEO of QP, commented.
QP’s LNG production capacity will be increased from 77 million tonnes per year to 100 million tonnes, according to the statement.
The expansion of the North Field will add 1 million barrels per day of oil equivalent in a bid to achieve a targeted capacity of 4.6 billion cubic feet per day.
“Qatargas is entrusted with executing this mega-project on behalf of Qatar Petroleum, and will commence the 'detailed engineering' with McDermott for the offshore jackets in addition to the recently announced onshore FEED with Chiyoda,” the statement added.
The state-run firm didn’t disclose the value of the contract.
