QSE ends Wednesday down; telecoms, transport weigh

Doha – Mubasher: The main index of the Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) ended Wednesday 0.37% or 37.44 points lower to reach 9,955.4 points.

Most of the sectors dropped, with the exception of the insurance sector, which rose 0.48% as Doha Insurance Group and Qatar Insurance Company gained 0.98% and 0.72%, respectively.

The telecoms sector lost 2.11% after Ooredoo declined 2.33% and Vodafone Qatar shed 0.97%.

The transportation sector decreased 0.43% after Qatar Navigation (Milaha) and Qatar Gas Transport Company (Nakilat) went down 0.74% and 0.36%, respectively.

The industrials sector tumbled 0.34% as Qatar Industrials Manufacturing Company (QIMC) levelled down 2.63%, followed by Qatar National Cement Company with 1.66% and Industries Qatar with 0.78%.

The financial sector weighed down 0.33% after Qatar Oman Investment Co, National Leasing Holding Co (Alijarah), and Doha Bank decreased 1.26%, 1%, and 0.94%, respectively.

Al Khaleej Takaful Group was the worst performer with 2.68%, whereas Islamic Holding Group led risers with 2.15%.

Traded volume rose to 11.66 million shares on Wednesday against 11.32 million shares on Tuesday, whereas liquidity dropped to QAR 307.06 million against QAR 329.36 million on Tuesday.

Vodafone Qatar’s stock was the most active in terms of trading volume with 2.17 million shares traded, while Ezdan Holding Group led in terms of trading value with QAR 28.14 million.

Earlier on Wednesday, the benchmark index shed 0.22% to reach 9,970.83 points.
