QSE hits 8M-low Wednesday, market cap sheds QAR 12bn

Mubasher: The Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) ended Wednesday’s trading session down, hitting an all-time low in eight months since June 2017 after losing QAR 12.3 billion.

The general index slid 276.18 points, or 3.09%, to 8,653.32 points.

By the end of the session, the QSE’s market capitalisation declined 2.6% to QAR 461.21 billion from QAR 473.49 billion on Tuesday.

Liquidity levelled up to QAR 350.73 million from QAR 252.08 million on Tuesday, while trading volume rose to 14.82 million shares compared to 11.56 million in the previous session.

The real estate sector topped the market’s six losers falling 3.09% as Barwa Real Estate dropped 8.67%.

The industrial sector levelled down 2.58%, dragged by Industries Qatar's 4.35% drop.

Similarly, the banking sector fell 2.02% after Qatar National Bank shed 1.89%.

Meanwhile, the telecommunication sector was the bourse’s only gainer adding 1.08% as Vodafone Qatar surged 7.54%.

Vodafone Qatar’s stock led the market in terms of trading volume with 4.7 million shares, generating QAR 43.8 million.
