QSE loses 167 pts in week; market cap falls 2%

Mubasher: The Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) closed the week ended 31 May down, dragged by a drop in six sectors.

The general index decreased 1.86%, or 168.68 points, to close the week at 8,880.51 points.

Market capitalisation went down 1.88% to QAR 491.78 billion over the week, compared to QAR 501.19 billion in the week ended 24 May.

The QSE’s liquidity surged 234.3% to QAR 5.76 billion from QAR 1.72 billion in the previous week, while the market’s trading volume jumped 107.68% to 99.65 million shares versus 47.98 million last week.

On a weekly basis, transactions grew 76.98% to 38,150 against 21,560.

The industrial sector topped the QSE’s losers falling 3.51%, followed by the real estate, telecommunication and banking sectors, which went down 2.04%, 1.70 and 1.68%, respectively.

Similarly, the insurance sector levelled down 1.58%, followed by the goods sector with 0.42%.

On the positive side, the transportation sector was the bourse’s only gainer adding 1.30%.

Over the week, 28 stocks levelled down, spearheaded by Aamal’s stock which retreated 7.8%, while 13 stocks posted increases, topped by Al Khaleej Takaful’s stock which gained 5%.
