QSE market value up 1.86% in 2016

Doha – Mubasher: The Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) general index rose 0.07% to end the year's trades at 10,436.76 points, compared to 10,429.36 points last year.

Market capitalisation added 1.86% to QAR 563.466 billion ($154.606 billion), compared to QAR 553.176 billion ($151.783 billion) in 2015. 

The market saw trading of 1.977 billion shares through 997,500 transactions at a value of QAR 68.989 billion.

The telecom sector topped the best performers and rose 22.26%, followed by the insurance and transport sectors which grew 9.96% and 4.79%, respectively.

On the other hand, the real estate and consumer services lost 3.77% and 1.72%, respectively.

Qatari Investors Group led the gaining stocks and gained 55%, while Medicare Group led the worst performers and lost 47%.

On the monthly level, the general index rose 6.56% to stand at 10,436.76 points by the end of December, compared to 9,793.83 points in November.

Turnover decreased 7.56% in December to QAR 5.381 billion in December from QAR 5.822 billion in November, while traded volume added 0.65% to 187.845 million shares in December, compared to 186.598 million shares in the previous month.
