QSE narrows early losses, closes marginally down

Mubasher: The Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) closed Wednesday down but was able to erase some of its earlier losses.

The general index slipped 0.05% or 4.55 points to close the session at 9,613.78 points.

Turnover fell to QAR 246.66 million on Wednesday from QAR 307.14 million on Tuesday, while traded volume declined to 7.75 million shares traded versus 8.42 million in the previous session.

The insurance sector slipped 0.05% after Qatar Insurance retreated 1.49% on the back of a drop in profits for the second quarter and the first half of 2018. The sector shrugged off Doha Insurance’s 2.77% rise.

The industrial sector decreased 0.10% after three stocks were down, led by Qatar National Cement, which lost 0.53%.

The banks sector fell 0.09% on the back of nine falling stocks, led by Islamic Holding Group’s 1.53% decrease.

On the positive side, four sectors ended in the green, led by consumer goods with 0.11%, after its stock Widam Food gained 2.55%.

Qatar National Bank’s (QNB) stock, which ended the session stable, was the value leader with QAR 91.2 million in turnover, while Vodafone Qatar, down 0.11%, led in terms of volume with 3.3 million shares exchanged.
