QSE rises 9% in Q3; market cap hits QAR 547bn

Mubasher: The Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) ended trading activities in positive territory during the third quarter of 2018.

The general index rose 8.7% to 9,813 points in the July-September period, compared to 9,024 in the previous quarter.

Market capitalisation levelled up 10.8% to QAR 547.4 billion in Q3-18, from QAR 493.7 billion in Q2-18, according to the bourse’s recent data.

The QSE’s liquidity recorded QAR 12.13 billion after 407 million shares were exchanged in Q3-18.

On a monthly basis, the general index retreated 0.74%, or 73 points, to 9,813.3 points in September.

By the end of September, the QSE’s liquidity jumped 39.9% to QAR 4.46 billion, against QAR 3.18 billion in August, while the trading volume went up 26.6% to 134.8 million shares from 106.4 million in the prior month.

The telecommunication sector topped the QSE’s decliners falling 5.42% last month, followed by the real estate and banking sectors, which decreased by 2.75% and 0.96%, respectively.

On the other hand, the goods sector headed the market’s gainers adding 11.1%, followed by the industrial and insurance sectors with 2% and 0.95%, respectively.
