QSE rises in February with QAR 9bn capital gains

Doha - Mubasher: The Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) saw a positive performance in January, as the general index added 0.99% or 104.90 points, and closed at the level of 10,702.12 points.

The market capital increased by 1.6% or QAR 9.09 billion to reach QAR 577.7 billion by the end of February, compared to QAR 568.61 billion in January.

Liquidity levels also grew 15.5%, as traded values reached QAR 6.7 billion last month up from QAR 5.8 billion in January, and traded volumes decreased by 1.1% to 187.6 million shares compared to 189.7 million shares in the previous month.

The number of transactions went up by 6.5% to 81,700 from 76,730 in January.

The banks sector led the market indices with 29.07%, followed by real estate with 18.93%, industrials with 15.47%, services with 13.08%, insurance 10.49%, telecom 8.06%, and transport with 4.9%.

As for the stocks' performances, 26 rose last month, led by Qatar Islamic Insurance which surged 26.48%, while 18 saw a decline, with Qatar Insurance leading the decliners and dropping 15.19%.
