QSE slumps 94 pts in week

Mubasher: The Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) closed the week ended 9 August in red territory.

The general index plunged 94.36 points, or 0.95%, to finish the week at 9,886.86 points, compared to 9,981.22 points a week before.

The bourse’s trading volume fell 7% to 38.19 million shares, compared 41.08 million shares, while liquidity tumbled 16.6% to QAR 1.014 billion, from QAR 1.2 billion in on a weekly basis.

The banks and financial services sector dipped 2%, whereas the real estate sector rose 4.4% by the end of the week.

Qatar for Cinema and Film Distribution’s stock led risers with 9.2%, whereas Medicare Group’s stock led losers with 4.2%, and the stocks of Zad Holding Company and Qatar General Insurance and Reinsurance Company remained unchanged.

The heavyweight Qatar National Bank’s (QNB) stock led the bourse in terms of traded value by acquiring 21.3%, followed by Industries Qatar’s stock with 10.5%, and Qatar Gas Transport’s (Nakilat) stock with 7.3%.

Market capitalisation of stocks listed on the QSE inched down QAR 3.5 billion, or 0.63%, to QAR 547.05 billion ($151.09 billion), from QAR 550.54 billion ($152.05 billion) a week earlier.
