QSE to launch further ETFs – CEO

Mubasher: Rashid Al Mansoori, CEO of the Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE), on Wednesday has said that the bourse plans to launch a number of exchange traded funds (ETFs) in a bid to attract further local and foreign investments.

The launching of the first ETF aimed at enhancing the market’s performance, Al Mansoori added.

In 2017, the QSE has been suffering over the first year of Qatar’s diplomatic rift, hitting its lowest level since 2011, which led the bourse to look for fresh catalysts in an effort to offset its losses.

In March, the Qatari bourse’s CEO announced the listing of a group of ETFs, topped by a major sharia-compliant fund whose value amounted to $500 million.

The general index fell 6.2% to 9,310.51 points by end of Tuesday’s session, compared to 9,923.60 on 4 June 2017.

On the other hand, three companies are expected to be listed on the market in the first half of 2018, and 35 firms will be floated in the coming five years.

By 11:35 am Qatar time, the general index went down 1.91%, or 173.52 points, reaching 8,924.39 points.
