QSE to maintain upward trend in 2017 - Analyst

By: Mahmoud Gamal

Doha – Mubasher: The Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) is expected to continue moving upward in 2017, backed by a strong economy, positive financial statements and the increase in oil prices.

Capital markets analyst, Al Sayed Hussien, suggested that the QSE’s performance was good since the beginning of 2016, despite lower turnover and trading volume.

“The key factor behind the positive performance behind the bourse’s positive performance this year was the continued purchases by foreign investors,” Hussien told Mubasher.

“The bourse’s liquidity declined this year compared to 2015, similarly to other stock markets in the GCC region,” he added.

The analyst also forecasted higher activity by foreign investors in 2017 as the listed companies raised cap on foreign ownership.

The real estate, banking and petrochemicals sectors are expected to perform positively in 2017 as they will benefit from new projects, new hikes in interest rates and higher oil prices.
