Qatar - Turkey bilateral trade hits $1.5bn/yr

Mubasher: Qatar's relations with Turkey are growing rapidly that in return encourages the two nations to work on boosting their trade ties, said vice chairman of Qatar Chamber Muhammed Bin Towar.

The strong relations between Doha and Ankara has paved the way to increase the trade exchange between the two countries to $1.5 billion a year, the top official added.

There are more than 205 Turkish companies operating in the Qatari market, including 186 joint venture (JV) companies, in addition to 19 companies with full ownership of Turkish capital, Qatar Chamber revealed in its statement on Tuesday.

Moreover, Turkish construction firms are executing projects in the world’s biggest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG) with $11.6 billion in investment, Bin Towar noted.

The Turkish firms are working in various fields, including in infrastructure, construction, engineering, consultancy, electric power, car spare parts and foodstuffs.

The relations between the two nations have become strong after four Arab countries severed their diplomatic and trade ties with Doha in June 2017, accusing the world's richest country per capita of supporting terrorism. Qatar forcefully denied the charge.
