Qatar, Iraq bilateral trade soars 52% in 2018

Mubasher: Trade exchange between Qatar and Iraq jumped 52% year-on-year to QAR 473 million ($129.95 million) in 2018, compared to QAR 310 million ($85.17 million), the chairman of Qatar Chamber (QC) announced on Sunday during the Qatari-Iraqi Business Council Forum held in Baghdad.

Top Qatari imports from Iraq include vegetables, fruits, and electric appliances, while the main Qatari exports to Iraq are crude oil, organic detergents, cement materials, packaging bags, and materials used in chemical industries, Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani added.

A total of 220 Iraqi companies are operating in the Qatari market; three of which are wholly owned by Iraq and the rest are with Qatari-Iraqi capital, the top official noted.

In April 2018, Qatar announced opening a new shipping route between Hamad Port and Umm Qasr Port in Iraq.
