Qatar, Japan trade surplus hikes 68% in May

Mubasher: Qatar’s trade surplus with Japan surged 68% year-on-year in May, according to the Japanese Ministry of Finance's (MoF) monthly bulletin released on Monday.

Trade surplus between the two countries amounted to JPY 123.38 billion ($1.11 billion) in May, compared to JPY 73.5 billion ($661 million) in the same period of the previous year.

The ministry attributed the increase in trade surplus to the rise in Qatar’s exports to Japan by 61% to JPY 131.7 billion ($1.18 billion) last month, from JPY 81.78 billion ($736 million) in May 2017.

Qatar’s total imports from Japan rose 1.1% year-on-year to JPY 8.38 billion ($75 million) in May, the data showed.
