Mubasher: The US State Department announced the approval of a $300 million deal of advanced precision weapon systems to Qatar.
On Monday 9 April, Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani met with James N. Mattis, US Secretary of Defense, at the Pentagon to discuss strategic cooperation and security between the two countries.
The deal entails supplying the GCC nation with 5,000 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon Systems II Guidance Sections, in addition to the related equipment and services, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in a statement.
This is considered Tamim’s second official visit to the US, especially after the quartet — the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Egypt — boycotted Qatar in June 2017, accusing the gas-rich nation of supporting terrorism. Qatar forcefully denied the charges.
