Mubasher: Qatar Airways Group on Monday announced that it achieved a growth of 14% during 2016 and 2017 in terms of passenger and cargo flights, according to the group’s sustainability report for 2016/2017.
The group succeeded in launching 10 new destinations and increasing its fleet to 196 aircraft from 182 aircraft within 12 months, ended in 31 March 2017.
Hamad International Airport served about 38.2 million passengers, managed 250,419 aircraft movements and handled 1.8 million tonnes of cargo, according to the report.
“Qatar Airways has continued to improve how efficiently it uses aviation fuel, making airline operations 2.5% more carbon efficient in 2017 than the previous year,” the report added.
Moreover, the group plans to launch 62 new destinations during 2018.
“Our environmental performance demonstrates that Qatar Airways takes its leadership role in the international aviation community very seriously,” CEO Akbar Al Baker stated.
With its wide-ranging destinations across six continents, Qatar Airways views “every corner of the globe [as] important.”
“We are committed to our own sustainability journey as well as to contributing to the aviation industry’s target of carbon-neutral growth from 2020,” Al Baker added.
