Qatar Airways to buy 5 Boeing 777 Freighters at $1.7bn

Mubasher: Qatar Airways announced signing a letter of intent with US planemaker Boeing to buy five 777 Freighters.

The letter was signed in the presence of Ali Sharif Al Emadi, Qatari Minister of Finance and Qatar Airways Chairman, and Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, in addition to Kevin McAllister, Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO.

"The addition of five 777 Freighters is a significant moment for our cargo division," Al Baker commented on the agreement.

The total value of the deal amounted to $1.7 billion, the Doha-based carrier.

Through the recent purchase order, the world's third-largest cargo operator aims at expanding its investments and upgrading its fleet, Al Baker added.

“This transaction will be a reinforcement of [Qatar Airways'] confidence in Boeing to continue to deliver an outstanding product that meets our exacting standards,” the chief executive of the national carrier noted.

Qatar Airways’ fleet includes more than 200 planes; nearly 100 aircraft of them are Boeing, heading over 150 destinations across the world.
