Qatar Exchange drops 2.5% in May

Mubasher: The Qatar Exchange (QE) declined in May on the back of losses achieved by five major sectors.

The general index declined 2.54% in May to close the month at the level of 8,880.51 points, losing 231.46 points compared to its level by the end of April.

Market capital lost 3.46% to reach a total QAR 491.78 billion.

The real estate sector was the biggest loser as it dropped 15.7%, followed by telecom and industry with 14.3% and 8.2%, respectively.

During last month, 31 stocks made losses, led by Ezdan that dropped 24.4%, while National Leasing Holding Company was the top gainer as it added 16.4%.

Liquidity levels rose to QAR 10.7 billion from QAR 6.1 billion in April, with traded volumes rising to 265.9 million shares from 249.1 million.

The total number of transactions reached around 107,700 in May, compared with 81,900 in the month before.
